Applies to: All repair work, assessments and services carried out by Computer Repairs Pronto.

Computer Repairs Pronto is an independent computer repair service based in the Hills District. We service computers, laptops and Apple Macs but are not affiliated with any manufacturer.

Please read through these terms before dropping off your device for repair.

1. Assessment Process

We offer a free initial assessment for most repair work. This covers a basic inspection to identify the problem and provide a quote.

For more complex issues requiring detailed diagnosis, a diagnostic fee may apply. This will be discussed with you beforehand.

If you proceed with the recommended repair, any diagnostic fee is typically waived or applied to the repair cost.

Should you decide not to proceed with repairs, any applicable diagnostic fees remain payable for the time spent.

2. Quotes and Repair Approval

All repair work requires your approval before we begin. Approval can be given in person, over the phone, via text message or email.

When we quote "from" a certain price, this represents a starting point. The final cost depends on the specific model, extent of damage and parts required.

Part prices can vary based on supplier availability and shipping. We will confirm the final price before starting any work.

By approving repairs, you consent to standard repair procedures including opening the device, testing components and installing replacement parts.

3. Replacement Parts

Depending on the repair, we may use:

  • Brand new replacement parts
  • Refurbished or reconditioned parts
  • Quality aftermarket alternatives

We will let you know what type of part is being used before proceeding with the repair.

3.1 Warranty on Parts

Part TypeWarranty Period
New parts12 months (manufacturing defects)
Refurbished or aftermarket parts30 days
Parts supplied by customerNo warranty provided

3.2 What the Warranty Does Not Cover

The warranty applies only to the specific part we replaced. It does not extend to:

  • Physical damage or accidents occurring after repair
  • Cracked or broken screens from drops or impacts
  • Water or liquid damage
  • Electrical damage from power surges or faulty wiring
  • Damage from using incompatible chargers or accessories
  • Pre-existing hardware problems not related to the repair
  • Software issues, malware or operating system problems
  • Any modifications or tampering after collection
  • Devices opened by another technician after our repair

If the replacement part fails due to any of the above causes, the warranty does not apply.

4. Australian Consumer Law

Our services comply with Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Under ACL you are entitled to:

  • Services performed with reasonable care and skill
  • Services that are fit for their intended purpose
  • Services completed within a reasonable timeframe

Our warranty terms are designed to clearly explain what is covered and what falls outside the scope of coverage. Where a fault is due to our workmanship or a defective part, we will repair or replace it.

ACL protections do not apply to damage caused by the customer, environmental factors, third-party interference or pre-existing faults.

5. Power and Electrical Issues

Many computer failures we see are caused by electrical problems in the home or office.

The following will void any warranty:

  • Power surges or electrical spikes
  • Unstable or faulty household wiring
  • Lightning strikes or storm damage
  • Using cheap or incompatible power adapters
  • Overloading USB ports or using faulty power boards
  • Overheating due to blocked ventilation or dusty environments

External electrical issues can damage repaired components and this type of damage is not covered under warranty.

6. Liquid Damage

Liquid damage is unpredictable. Even after cleaning and repair, corrosion can continue to spread over time.

Repairs on liquid-damaged devices carry no long-term guarantee. A component we repair may fail again if the main board has underlying corrosion from the spill.

Warranty on liquid damage repairs applies only to the specific part replaced at the time of service.

7. Your Data and Backups

It is your responsibility to back up your data before bringing in your device.

While we take care with all devices, certain repairs may require system resets, drive replacements or component swaps that can result in data loss.

We cannot accept responsibility for lost data, corrupted files or software problems that occur during or after repair.

If data recovery is required, this is a separate service with its own terms.

8. Repair Risks and Older Devices

Opening any computer can expose hidden faults or weaknesses that were not apparent before disassembly.

Older devices may have brittle cables, worn connectors or components weakened by age. These can sometimes fail during normal repair procedures.

We take all reasonable care but cannot be held responsible for age-related component failure or pre-existing problems that become apparent during repair.

9. Refunds

Refunds are not provided for completed repairs where the work was carried out successfully.

If you change your mind after a repair has been completed, a refund is not available.

Warranty claims are handled on a repair-or-replace basis at our discretion.

10. Making a Warranty Claim

To make a warranty claim:

  • Return the device to our workshop for inspection
  • The original repair must be identifiable
  • The device must not have been opened by any other technician since our repair
  • The device must be in the same configuration as when collected

If inspection reveals the issue was caused by damage, liquid, power problems or misuse, the warranty claim will not be approved.

11. Collection and Abandoned Devices

Devices should be collected within 14 days of repair completion or diagnostic outcome notification.

After 30 days, storage fees may apply.

Devices not collected within 60 days may be considered abandoned and disposed of or recycled to recover outstanding costs.

12. Independent Service Disclaimer

Computer Repairs Pronto is an independent repair service.

We are not authorised by or affiliated with Apple, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Lenovo or any other manufacturer.

We do not represent any manufacturer or provide manufacturer-authorised service.

13. Agreement

By leaving your device with Computer Repairs Pronto for assessment or repair, you acknowledge and agree to:

  • These terms, warranty conditions and exclusions
  • Any applicable diagnostic or assessment fees
  • Responsibility for backing up your own data
  • The risks involved in computer repair
  • The limitations of our warranty coverage
