Common MacBook Pro Repairs
Screen Replacements
MacBook Pro screens are expensive to replace but we can do it for significantly less than Apple charges. Whether its a cracked display, dead pixels, lines on screen, or backlight failure we can diagnose and repair the issue. The newer models with Liquid Retina XDR displays require complete display assembly replacements.
Battery Replacements
MacBook Pro batteries typically last 3-5 years before needing replacement. Signs include reduced runtime, slow performance, Service Battery warning, or a swollen battery pushing up on the trackpad. We replace batteries on all models. On newer models the battery is glued in which makes replacement more involved.
Keyboard Repairs and Replacements
The butterfly keyboards on 2016-2019 MacBook Pros were problematic with keys sticking, not registering, or double typing. Apple had a keyboard replacement program but that ended in 2023. We can still repair or replace these keyboards. The 2019 and later models with scissor switch keyboards are much more reliable but can still fail.
Touch Bar Repairs
Touch Bar issues on 2016-2020 Intel MacBook Pros can include the Touch Bar not responding, showing glitches, or not turning on. The Touch Bar is integrated with the logic board on some models which can complicate repairs. We diagnose Touch Bar issues and provide repair options.
Logic Board Repairs
Logic board failures can be caused by liquid damage, power issues, or component failure. We do component level repairs where possible including capacitor replacements, chip repairs, and fixing corrosion damage. This can often save money compared to full board replacement.
GPU and Graphics Issues
Some older MacBook Pro models (particularly 2011 and some 2012-2013 models) had issues with discrete graphics chips failing. Symptoms include no display, distorted graphics, or crashes. We can diagnose graphics issues and provide repair options.
Charging and Power Issues
MacBook Pros that wont charge or wont turn on could have issues with the charging port, battery, logic board, or power circuitry. We diagnose power issues and repair or replace components as needed. Common issues include damaged USB-C ports, failed charging chips, or corroded connectors.
SSD and Storage Upgrades
On older MacBook Pro models (2012-2015 Retina and 2008-2012 unibody) we can upgrade the storage to larger SSDs. This breathes new life into older machines. For models with soldered storage we can help with data recovery if the drive has failed.
Trackpad Repairs
MacBook Pro trackpads use Force Touch technology on newer models. Common issues include trackpad not clicking, erratic cursor movement, or complete failure. Sometimes trackpad issues are caused by a swollen battery underneath. We replace trackpads on all models.
MacBook Pro Sizes
MacBook Pros have been available in different sizes over the years:
- 13-inch - The compact size, available from 2009 to 2022
- 14-inch - Introduced in 2021 with M1 Pro/Max, replaced the 13-inch as the smaller Pro option
- 15-inch - The mid-size option from 2008 to 2019
- 16-inch - Introduced in 2019, the larger display option
- 17-inch - Available from 2008 to 2011, discontinued
Turnaround Times
Most MacBook Pro repairs can be completed within 1-3 days depending on parts availability and complexity. Simple repairs like battery replacements or SSD upgrades can often be done same day. More complex repairs like logic board work or liquid damage may take longer. We provide an estimated timeframe when you drop off your machine.
Warranty on Repairs
All MacBook Pro repairs come with a warranty on parts and labour. If something goes wrong with the repair we fix it at no additional cost.
