iMac Repair for Western Sydney

We repair and upgrade Intel iMacs for people across Western Sydney, from Parramatta and Blacktown to Penrith, Fairfield and Liverpool. There is no pickup: you bring the iMac to our workshop near Castle Hill (8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday), which is about 20–25 minutes from Parramatta or Blacktown outside peak hour. How drop-off works

We do not collect iMacs, work on them onsite or take them by post. You bring the iMac in, and the work happens on our bench. The process is the same wherever you drive from:

1. Ring first. Tell us the model (About This Mac shows it, or the serial number is on the underside of the stand) and what is wrong. For upgrades and obvious faults we can usually price the job on the phone, and we will say then if it is not worth doing. We also give you the drop-off details, as the workshop address is not published.
2. Bring it in between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
3. We confirm the quote. For upgrades that is normally the phone price. Any hands-on diagnosis on the bench is our $150 bench diagnostic; that fee is waived if you go ahead with the repair, and if you decide not to, it is the only charge.
4. You approve, we do the work. Nothing beyond the agreed quote happens without a call to you. SSD and RAM work usually takes one to two business days when parts are in stock; for other repairs we give you a timeframe with the quote.
5. Collect it tested, with 12 months' warranty on parts and labour.

Carrying an iMac in the car

An iMac is mostly screen, and the screen is the expensive part. A few precautions stop a drive across Sydney turning into a screen replacement:

• Use the original box if you still have it. With its inserts, it is the safest way to carry an iMac.
• Otherwise, lay it flat, screen down, on something soft. A folded doona or thick blanket on the back seat is ideal. Screen down, the glass is supported evenly and nothing can fall onto it. Wedge it with cushions so it cannot slide.
• Do not stand it up on its stand for the drive. It is stable on a desk, but under hard braking it can tip forward onto the glass.
• The back seat beats the boot. It is softer and you can see it. If it must go in the boot, lay it flat on padding with nothing loose that can slide into it. Never put it in a ute tray.
• Lift it by the stand and the bottom edge, not by the top of the screen, and put nothing on top of it.
• Cracked glass: a few strips of wide masking tape across the cracks keep loose pieces in place.
• Do not leave it in a parked car on a hot day while you run another errand.

What to bring, and what to leave at home

• Bring the iMac and its power cable. On these models the cable unplugs from the back. On a no-power fault, your own cable is one of the things we check.
• Bring your login password, or set up a separate administrator account for us before you come. We need to log in to test macOS after the work, and after an SSD upgrade to check your files came across. If FileVault is on, the password is also needed to reach your data.
• Leave the keyboard, mouse and trackpad at home. We have our own for testing.
• Leave other accessories at home: external drives, hubs, adaptors and spare cables, unless we have asked for one.
• Bring a note of the fault if it is intermittent: when it happens, what you see, and a phone photo of the screen if it is a display problem.

Prices are in Australian dollars including GST, with our 12-month warranty on parts and labour. All are from-prices except the bench diagnostic, which is a fixed fee.

Why people drive past closer shops for Intel iMac work

Western Sydney has plenty of repair shops, and for many jobs the nearest one is the right choice. Intel iMacs have some peculiarities that make specific experience worth a drive:

• Glued displays. On 2012–2019 models, an SSD upgrade on any size and a RAM upgrade on a 21.5-inch mean cutting the display off and fitting new adhesive. On the 21.5-inch the RAM sits behind the logic board, so the board comes out too. That is routine work for us.
• Model-specific gotchas. 27-inch models need a drive temperature sensor solution when the SATA drive is replaced, or the fans run flat out. The Late 2012 blade slot takes only SATA-type blades, not NVMe. Some 21.5-inch models have no blade connector at all unless they were bought with a Fusion Drive or SSD. Fusion Drives split into two drives if either half is changed. Knowing this before the display comes off decides which parts to order.
• Newer macOS. We install OpenCore Legacy Patcher, which runs up to macOS Sequoia on iMacs Apple has dropped, from $249, and explain the trade-offs first: lowered security protections, updates that must be re-patched, and no Tahoe support. When we checked in September 2026 we found no other Australian business advertising it as a priced service.
• Board-level repair. We have repaired logic boards at component level since 2006, so a dead iMac is not automatically a write-off or a board swap.
• Published prices. Many Sydney shops do not publish iMac prices. Ours are above, and the phone quote is free.

We are an independent workshop, not Apple Authorised. We also tell people when not to spend money: a 27-inch 2011 sells privately for about $60–$150, so a power supply on one, from $479, only makes sense if you want that machine, and sometimes the right answer is a new 24-inch M4 iMac at $2,399. Jobs you may not need us for

On any 27-inch, and on 2009–2011 21.5-inch models, RAM goes in through an access door, and Apple publishes instructions for owners. If you are comfortable doing it, buy the right modules and fit them yourself, or bring them in and we fit them from $89. One catch on 2009–2011 quad-core Core i5 and i7 models: Apple warns that a single module on its own in one of the bottom slots will stop them starting.

Do you pick up iMacs from Parramatta or Blacktown?

No. iMac repairs are drop-off only at our workshop near Castle Hill, and we do not offer pickup, onsite iMac work or posting. From Parramatta or Blacktown the drive is about 20–25 minutes outside peak hour. Ring 0400 454 859 first so we can quote on the phone, tell you whether the job is worth doing, and expect you.

Is there an iMac repair shop near me in Western Sydney?

There are many general repair shops in Western Sydney, and for simple jobs the closest may suit you. For Intel iMac work that needs the glued display removed, the drive temperature sensor sorted, newer macOS installed with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, or board-level repair, people come to our workshop near Castle Hill, 20 to 45 minutes away depending on the suburb.

How long will I be without my iMac?

SSD and RAM upgrades usually take one to two business days when parts are in stock. Screens, power supplies, graphics cards and board repairs depend on the fault and on parts for your model, so we give you a timeframe with the quote. We do not promise same-day work, because we would rather test the iMac properly before it goes home.

Are you an Apple Authorised Service Provider?

No. We are an independent workshop that has done board-level repair since 2006. For iMacs we concentrate on the Intel models from Late 2009 to 2020, none of which can run Apple's newest macOS. Every repair carries our own 12-month warranty on parts and labour, and the phone quote is free with no obligation.

Is it worth driving from Penrith for an iMac SSD upgrade?

If it is an iMac you want to keep, usually yes. The upgrade makes startup and app launches dramatically faster and, from $599 with a 500GB SSD, includes moving your files and setting up macOS. That is near the upper end of the SSD prices Australian shops publish, though below an on-site Sydney service that starts at $742. On an older iMac worth only a few hundred dollars, ask us on the phone whether it is worth doing. Penrith is about 35–45 minutes away outside peak hour.

Should I back up my iMac before dropping it off?

Yes, if it still works. Our SSD upgrade includes moving your data to the new drive, but a separate backup on an external drive, for example with Time Machine, protects you against anything unexpected, including a drive that fails during the copy. If the iMac will not start, tell us when you ring and we will plan around getting your files off first.
