Yes. Post the faulty card from Darwin to our Hills District workshop in Sydney and it is repaired at component level. We find the part that failed, such as a burnt connector, a dead power stage or a faulty memory chip, and replace it rather than the whole card. Plainly put, we are in Sydney, not the Territory. Take a card hit by wet-season lightning, sent Parcel Post both ways, needing new power stages. Four to seven business days to reach us, three to seven on the bench, four to seven home: 11 to 21 business days, a little over two weeks at best and a little over four at worst. Public holidays, your approval and payment of the invoice add to that; the card ships home once paid. Reball and physical-damage work runs five to ten bench days, and faults that come and go, or a part on order, take longer.
Worth knowing: the next-business-day Express Post guarantee does not extend to Darwin. It applies only within the Express Post network between capital cities, Darwin excluded, so Express from here is just a quicker estimate (3–4 business days against 4–7) with no late-delivery refund. Where the guarantee does apply, a parcel dropped into a red street box, or left in a Parcel Locker, loses it. Either way, lodge at a counter: the receipt is your proof of lodgement.
Graphics card repair options in Darwin, compared fairly

The rest are general computer shops and national chains. Repair in town spares your card at least six business days of transit, so talk to them as well as to us.

Heat, the wet and lightning: the Darwin fault list
The Bureau of Meteorology gives Darwin mean maximums of 32.8°C in December, 31.8°C in January and 31.5°C in February. The wet season runs from October to April with humidity constantly above 60 per cent, 3pm readings of 65 to 72 per cent from December to February, and an average of 432mm of rain in January alone.
Heat first. A cooler can only pull a card towards room temperature, so a room above 30°C leaves little headroom, and paste and pads tend to dry out faster when they spend years hot. The card then throttles, runs its fans flat out, or crashes under load. A thermal service (from $330, one to two bench days) strips the old paste and pads, cleans the cooler and fits fresh ones.
Humidity is slower and less direct. A running card is warmer than the air, so it does not usually gather moisture in use. Trouble comes when damp settles into dust in the cooler, when a PC sits switched off through weeks of the wet, or when a cold card from an air-conditioned room meets humid air and condensation forms. Corrosion from any of these shows up under magnification during the diagnostic, and where it has damaged a port or trace, that repair starts from $370.
Lightning is the sudden one. Darwin Airport records an average of 13.4 lightning flashes per square kilometre per year, most of them from November to April. A surge that reaches the PC can burn out the card's power stages, a repair from $430, and may take the power supply with it, so check that too. Power and Water does not compensate for lightning or storm damage, so the bill is yours. Unplugging the PC when a storm builds is the cheapest protection there is.
Prices and insurance for the long haul
Territory customers pay Sydney walk-in prices on any desktop GeForce or Radeon card, and RTX 30 to 50 or RX 6000 to 9000 cards are the ones repair most often suits. These are starting points; the fixed figure comes with the quote.

Parcel Post and Express Post both carry cover up to $100. Past that, Extra Cover costs $2.50 for each additional $100 of value, to a ceiling of $5,000. A card worth $2,300 takes 22 of those steps, about $55 on each leg, and Signature on Delivery at $2.95 is compulsory over $500. The sender claims if the parcel is lost; for damage, the recipient claims and must take the card and its packaging into a Post Office. The claimant has six months and must show that the parcel was lodged and what the card was worth, and an inadequately packed parcel gets nothing.
Packing a card for the trip out of the Top End
- Seal it in dry air. Bag the card in an air-conditioned room so the air sealed in with it is dry, and keep the box out of the rain on the way to the counter.
- Pack for the long haul. Australia Post's guidance is box-in-box: a rigid carton that fits the card snugly, cushioned inside a second carton. Sendle's is an anti-static bag, 7cm or more of cushioning, then a shake to confirm nothing moves.
- Pick a carrier that suits the NT and the card. Aramex does not operate in the Northern Territory. CouriersPlease's included cover excludes electronic devices. Sendle includes $100 of cover and sells more up to $1,500, so a dearer card is better served by Australia Post Extra Cover, which reaches $5,000.
- Card only, in a plain carton. Cooler fitted, no cables, brackets or retail box, and the job number inside. Aramex's advice is to avoid any box that advertises electronics, and a “Fragile” sticker is no guarantee of gentle handling.

Bought it recently: claim from the seller first
On a recent card bought from a business, the seller is your first stop, not us. Consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law sit above any manufacturer's warranty and can run beyond it. You claim through the seller, who is not permitted to send you off to the manufacturer, and when the failure is major, refund or replacement is your call. In the ACCC's Federal Court action against Apple (2018, $9 million in penalties), the finding was that an outside repair cannot, on that ground alone, end your guarantees. The maker's warranty is its own arrangement, though, so lodge the claim before anyone opens the card. Private-sale cards and misuse damage fall outside the guarantees; that is where mail-in repair fits.

Does humidity damage graphics cards?
Rarely while the card is running, because a working card sits warmer than the air around it. The risk comes from moisture mixing with dust in the cooler, from a PC left off for weeks during the wet, and from condensation when a cold card meets humid air. Over time that can corrode contacts and components. Darwin's 3pm humidity sits between 65 and 72 per cent from December to February, so store spare cards sealed and dry. Can lightning kill a graphics card?

The consumer guarantees apply on top of any warranty and can outlast it, the seller has to handle the claim instead of sending you to the manufacturer, and a major failure lets you choose a refund or a replacement.
