RTX 5080 Faults We Diagnose and Repair
We repair RTX 5080 faults in the power connector, the eight GDDR7 memory chips, the power stages, the firmware and the board itself, and the symptom tells us where to begin testing. Use the table to match what you are seeing:
| Symptom | First place we test | Repair from |
|---|---|---|
| Browned or melted 16-pin plug, burning smell | The 12V-2x6 socket on the card, the 12V input behind it, the cable | From $370 |
| Plug will not stay latched, or a power-cable warning light | A broken latch or a damaged socket housing | From $370 |
| Flickering blocks, lines or corrupted textures | GDDR7 memory, the memory supply, firmware | From $530 for a memory chip, if the correct chip is available |
| Fans turn, screen stays black | Core and memory power rails, firmware, the PCIe link | Firmware from $330; power stage from $430 |
| PC will not start, or cuts out instantly, with the card fitted | A shorted power stage or capacitor | From $430 |
| Throttling or crashing after warm-up | Cooler contact, thermal material, fans | From $330 |
| Founders Edition not detected or dropping out | Slot settings, the separate PCIe board and its joint to the main board | Quoted after diagnosis |
| Card works but scores below similar cards | The ROP count, checked in GPU-Z | Warranty replacement, not a repair |
These rows show where testing begins, not what has failed. The quote follows the diagnosis.
Is Your RTX 5080 Still Under Warranty?
If your RTX 5080 is still inside its manufacturer's warranty, take it back to the retailer you bought it from before paying for any repair. The RTX 5080 went on sale on 30 January 2025, so many cards may still be covered.
- The retailer is your first call. Your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law sit with the business that sold you the card.
- Factory defects need a replacement, not a repair. A GPU with fewer ROPs than specified is one example (see missing ROPs).
- Check your dates. Each brand sets its own warranty period. Your receipt and the maker's website will tell you where you stand.
A paid repair is the better route when the warranty has run out, a claim has been declined, or the card was bought second-hand and the warranty does not pass to you. Not sure? Ring 02 8428 9224 and we will tell you if the retailer is the right place.
RTX 5080 GDDR7 Memory: Layout and Chip Replacement
The RTX 5080 carries 16GB of GDDR7 as eight 2GB chips on a 256-bit bus, and a failed chip can be replaced from $530 once the correct replacement chip has been sourced.
- One chip per channel. Each chip owns a 32-bit share of the bus, so errors on one share point to one chip position.
- Speed. The memory runs at 30 Gbps for 960 GB/s of bandwidth. Hardware Busters found Samsung chips rated for 32 Gbps on a Galax card, running at the 5080's 30 Gbps.
- More than one maker. Samsung GDDR7 has been found on several RTX 5080s, but NVIDIA sourced the 5080's memory from more than one supplier, so the maker can differ between cards.
- Supply. In September 2026 Hardware Busters reported that Micron now lists its 2GB GDDR7 chips as end of life, leaving Samsung and SK hynix as the two sources of that density for the RTX 50 series.
Memory repairs depend on getting the correct chip. We match the replacement to the chips already on your card and confirm we can get it before you approve. If it cannot be sourced, we tell you rather than fit a near match.
How a GDDR7 chip is replaced:
- Testing at full speed and temperature finds the failing chip position.
- The board is preheated, nearby parts shielded, and the chip lifted with controlled hot air.
- The solder pads are cleaned and levelled, and the new chip fitted.
- All eight chips are retested and the thermal pads renewed at the right thickness.
RTX 5080 Artefacting and Memory Errors
Artefacts on an RTX 5080, such as coloured blocks, lines, flicker or corrupted textures, usually come from a GDDR7 chip, the memory's power supply or firmware, but a driver fault can look exactly the same. The timing is the best clue:
| When it happens | What it points to |
|---|---|
| On the motherboard logo or BIOS screen | A hardware fault on the card, since no driver is running yet |
| Only under load, worse as the card warms | A memory chip or memory supply that fails with heat or high data rates |
| After a driver update, and a different card does it too | Software or another part of the computer |
Before sending the card, strip the driver out using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and reinstall it, undo any overclock, and try another computer if you can. Our GPU artefacting guide has the full list of checks.
RTX 5080 No Display and Black Screens
An RTX 5080 with no picture can usually be repaired if the GPU itself is healthy, and the first clue is whether the computer detects the card.
| What the computer reports | What it usually points to |
|---|---|
| Card listed, screen black | Firmware, memory or the display outputs; on a Founders Edition, also the display board and its link to the main board |
| Card not listed at all | A power rail that never comes up, or damage at the PCIe edge; on a Founders Edition, the PCIe board and its joint |
| Listed on some starts only | An intermittent joint, a marginal rail, or a PCIe link problem (see below) |
Founders Edition owners: try PCIe 4.0 before sending the card. In launch week, overclocker der8auer reported boot failures, lock-ups and no signal from an RTX 5080 Founders Edition in a PCIe 5.0 slot, which stopped once the slot was set to PCIe 4.0 (Profesional Review, HotHardware). Igor's Lab reported an RTX 50 Founders Edition that would not work with risers or adapters unless the link was limited to PCIe 4.0 or below. NVIDIA had not commented at the time. If removing a riser and setting Gen 4 cures your card, it may not need a repair.
RTX 5080 12V-2x6 Power Connector: Care and Repair
The RTX 5080 takes its 360W through one 16-pin 12V-2x6 connector, and a heat-damaged or broken socket on the card can be replaced from $370. 12V-2x6 is the updated form of the 16-pin socket that the RTX 4080 Super used under the 12VHPWR name.
What has been reported about RTX 5080 connectors:
- February 2025: Tom's Hardware reported a Reddit user's unconfirmed claim of a 16-pin cable melting at the power supply end in a system with an ASUS RTX 5080; the card's end was reported unaffected.
- Another claim linking melted connectors to a new RTX 5080 proved a false alarm; the damage was traced to an RTX 4090 (Notebookcheck).
- December 2025: Tom's Hardware reported an RTX 5080 Founders Edition whose connector latch broke on the first unplug.
Tom's Hardware noted that these incidents had not formed a clear pattern. Connector care is still worth the minute it takes:
- Seat it fully. Push until the latch clicks and no gap shows.
- Give the cable a straight run. Avoid a tight bend at the plug; the Founders Edition socket is angled and recessed to help.
- Cable choice. Hardware Busters recommends a native 12+4 pin cable from the power supply over adapters. With the boxed adapter, run each 8-pin plug from its own cable.
- Unplug gently. Press the latch fully and pull straight, without rocking.
- Look for heat marks. Browning or a warped housing means stop using the card and the cable, and replace the cable too: an overheated plug can damage a new socket.
The repair: the damaged socket is removed, the board pads are cleaned and checked for lifted copper, a new connector is fitted, and the 12V input is measured for shorts. The card then runs at full load while the connector is watched with a thermal camera.
RTX 5080 Power Stage Faults and Short Circuits
A failed power stage on an RTX 5080 usually shows up as a card that is not detected or a PC that powers off the instant you press the button, and repairs start from $430. Power stages turn the 12V input into the low voltages the GPU and memory use.
- What reviewers found on partner boards. Hardware Busters counted a 10-phase core supply on a Galax 1-Click OC, and Igor's Lab 11 core phases on an MSI Expert. Both used Monolithic Power Systems MP87993 power stages run by an MP29816 controller. Layouts differ between models, so parts are matched to your board.
- How a stage fails. It often shorts. On the 12V input that trips the power supply at once; on the core rail the fans may run with no picture.
The shorted rail is found by measuring each rail to ground unpowered. A small current-limited supply is then fed in, and a thermal camera shows which part warms. Once it is replaced, the other parts on that rail are tested and every rail is raised current-limited before the card sees full load.
Suspect a short? Stop powering the card. Each attempt in a normal computer can turn one failed part into several.
RTX 5080 Crashes, Shutdowns and Overheating
An RTX 5080 that crashes, throttles or shuts the computer down under load points to cooling, the card's own power delivery, or a power supply that cannot keep up with a 360W card. Check the cheap causes first:
- Power supply. NVIDIA lists 850W minimum system power for the RTX 5080. An older or smaller unit can switch the PC off under load, which looks like a card fault.
- Cooler contact. Temperatures that climb fast after a repaste, a water block fit or a cooler swap usually mean poor contact or wrong pad thickness.
- Tuning. Undo overclocks, undervolts and raised power limits, then test at stock.
A thermal service with pads matched to your board starts from $330. A card that comes through every bench test costs you only the $150 diagnostic, and the results tell you to look elsewhere in the system.
RTX 5080 Cards With Missing ROPs
Some early RTX 5080 cards shipped with 104 ROPs instead of the specified 112; this is a manufacturing defect inside the GPU chip, so it cannot be repaired and should go back for a warranty replacement. ROPs (render output units) handle the last stage of drawing each frame, so a card missing some still works but runs slower.
What NVIDIA said:
- In February 2025 NVIDIA said under 0.5% of RTX 5090, 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs had fewer ROPs than specified, with an average graphics performance impact of 4% and none on AI and compute work. Affected owners could contact the board manufacturer for a replacement, and the production anomaly had been corrected.
- Days later NVIDIA told The Verge that an early production build of RTX 5080 GPUs was affected too.
How to check your card:
- Open GPU-Z on the Graphics Card tab and read the ROPs field.
- A correct RTX 5080 shows 112; an affected card shows 104.
- If yours shows 104, ask the retailer or the card's maker for a replacement.
Please check this before sending us a card: no board-level repair can restore missing ROPs. If a diagnostic turns up a low count, we tell you before quoting anything.
RTX 5080 Founders Edition: Split-Board Design
NVIDIA's RTX 5080 Founders Edition shares the RTX 5090 Founders Edition's split layout: a compact main board in the middle of the card, plus a separate board for the PCIe connector and another for the display outputs.
| Founders Edition | Partner cards | |
|---|---|---|
| Boards | Central main board with the GPU, memory and power stages; separate PCIe and display boards | Each maker's own board design and power layout |
| Cooling | Double flow-through: both fans push air straight through the fins, with five heat pipes running to the fin stacks | Each maker's own cooler |
| Size | Two slots, 304mm long, 137mm tall | Varies by model |
| Power socket | 12V-2x6, angled and recessed into the shroud | 12V-2x6, position varies |
| On the bench | Many screws and brackets; the joints between boards need care on every strip and rebuild | Board-specific parts, pad sizes and firmware |
- Thermal material. HotHardware reported that the 5080 Founders Edition uses a phase-change thermal material on the GPU rather than liquid metal.
- Board joints. Notebookcheck reported a repair shop's teardown of a 5090 Founders Edition that found bent and broken pins in the fragile flex connector between boards, with no replacement available. The 5080 uses the same multi-board approach.
- What that means for you. Think twice before stripping a Founders Edition for a water block. A damaged joint can only be repaired if the right part can be sourced.
The flagship's version of this design is covered on our RTX 5090 repair page.
RTX 5080 vs RTX 4080 Super: What Changed
The RTX 5080 replaced the RTX 4080 Super with a new GPU, faster GDDR7 memory and a higher power rating, so the parts a repair needs are different even though the memory size and bus width match.
| RTX 4080 Super | RTX 5080 | |
|---|---|---|
| Released | 31 January 2024 | 30 January 2025 |
| GPU | AD103 (Ada Lovelace) | GB203 (Blackwell) |
| CUDA cores | 10,240 | 10,752 |
| Memory | 16GB GDDR6X at 23 Gbps | 16GB GDDR7 at 30 Gbps |
| Bus and bandwidth | 256-bit, 736 GB/s | 256-bit, 960 GB/s |
| Rated power | 320W | 360W |
| Power socket | 16-pin 12VHPWR | 16-pin 12V-2x6 |
| Founders Edition | 304 x 137mm, three slots | 304 x 137mm, two slots, split boards |
On the bench, that means:
- Different memory parts. GDDR6X and GDDR7 chips are not interchangeable, so a 4080 Super chip can never repair a 5080.
- More load. The 5080's extra 40W adds load on the 16-pin plug and the core power stages, which is why the connector gets a thermal-camera check.
- A slimmer Founders Edition, made possible by the split board, which changes the strip and rebuild.
For the earlier card, see our RTX 4080 and 4080 Super repair page.
RTX 5080 vs RTX 5070 Ti: Same GB203 Family
The RTX 5070 Ti is built on a cut-down version of the RTX 5080's GB203 chip, with the same eight-chip, 256-bit GDDR7 layout but fewer cores, slower memory and a lower power rating.
| RTX 5070 Ti | RTX 5080 | |
|---|---|---|
| Released | 20 February 2025 | 30 January 2025 |
| GPU | GB203-300 | GB203-400 |
| SMs and CUDA cores | 70 and 8,960 | 84 and 10,752 |
| ROPs as specified | 96 | 112 |
| Memory | 16GB GDDR7 at 28 Gbps, eight 2GB chips | 16GB GDDR7 at 30 Gbps, eight 2GB chips |
| Bus and bandwidth | 256-bit, 896 GB/s | 256-bit, 960 GB/s |
| Rated power | 300W | 360W |
- Similar memory work. Testing and chip replacement follow the same steps; the speed grade on your card decides the part.
- Firmware never crosses over. Recovery uses the file for your exact card, never one from the other model.
- Both were in the ROP statements. NVIDIA named both models when it confirmed cards with fewer ROPs than specified.
- We repair the 5070 Ti too. Choose "Other or not sure" in the form and give the model; pricing starts from the same points.
How We Diagnose an RTX 5080
Every RTX 5080 is tested from the least invasive check to the most, and nothing is repaired until you approve a fixed quote.
- The warranty question. If the card should go back to the retailer, we say so before it is opened.
- Inspection under magnification of the 12V-2x6 socket, both sides of the board, Founders Edition board joints and any earlier work.
- Unpowered measurements of the 12V input and each rail to ground.
- Current-limited start from a bench supply, then each rail checked in order.
- Firmware. When the symptom calls for it, the BIOS is dumped and compared with the right file for that exact card.
- Memory and ROPs. All eight GDDR7 chips are tested at full speed, and the ROP count is read so a factory defect is caught before you spend money.
- Load and heat. Faults that need warmth are reproduced, and the power connector is checked with a thermal camera at full load.
- The quote. The failed part, the fix, a fixed price, and a straight answer on whether the card deserves the money.
What Can and Cannot Be Repaired on an RTX 5080
Most board-level faults on an RTX 5080 can be repaired, but faults inside the GB203 chip itself, including missing ROPs, cannot.
Usually repairable:
- Melted, cracked or unlatched 12V-2x6 sockets
- A failed GDDR7 chip, when the correct replacement can be sourced
- Failed power stages and shorted capacitors
- Corrupted or mismatched firmware
- Knocked-off parts, damaged display ports and PCIe contacts
- Overheating from poor cooler contact or worn pads
Not repairable, or rarely worth it:
- Missing ROPs. A factory defect in the GPU: a warranty replacement matter.
- A failed or cracked GPU core. The core cannot be repaired, and a replacement GB203 is not something we can promise to find.
- Burn damage through the board's inner layers. Rarely dependable on a 360W card.
- A damaged joint between Founders Edition boards where the replacement part cannot be sourced.
- Heavy corrosion or damage from an earlier repair attempt.
When a card cannot be repaired, the cost to you is the $150 diagnostic plus any return postage. Nothing more is charged, and we explain what failed.
RTX 5080 Repair Cost
RTX 5080 repairs start from $330, the $150 bench diagnostic is waived if you go ahead, and the final price is fixed in a quote before work starts. Call 02 8428 9224 with the card model and the fault for a starting price.
| Work | Price |
|---|---|
| Bench diagnostic | $150, taken off the bill if you go ahead |
| Thermal service, GPU thermal material and pads | From $330 |
| Firmware and BIOS recovery | From $330 |
| 12V-2x6 connector, port or trace repair | From $370 |
| Power-stage repair | From $430 |
| GDDR7 memory chip replacement | From $530, subject to the correct chip being available |
| Reflow or reball | From $630, quoted per card |
| Card cannot be repaired | The $150 diagnostic and any return postage only |
Interstate owners also cover the postage in both directions, using the service and insurance they prefer.
Is an RTX 5080 Worth Repairing Out of Warranty?
Usually, yes: the RTX 5080 sits second in NVIDIA's RTX 50 desktop range, and a single-fault repair costs a small share of another card. Hardware Busters reported in July 2026 that RTX 5080 prices had risen during the year, mainly on memory costs.
Weigh it up against recently sold listings for a working RTX 5080, not asking prices. As an illustration: if working RTX 5080s are selling for around $1,500 near you, spending from $370 on a connector or from $430 on a power stage is an easy call, and a memory chip from $530 still leaves a wide margin.
Worth it when the fault is a connector, a power stage, a single memory chip, firmware or cooling, and the warranty has expired or a claim was declined. A card you know is also a safer bet than a used one with no history.
Think twice when:
- the core itself is dead, or burn damage goes through the board (see what can be repaired);
- a needed part, such as the correct memory chip or a Founders Edition board connector, cannot be sourced; or
- the card is still under warranty. Go to the retailer first.
RTX 5080 Repair Turnaround
Most RTX 5080 repairs take one to ten business days on the bench, depending on the fault and on whether a part has to be ordered.
| Job | Typical time on the bench |
|---|---|
| Thermal service or firmware recovery | 1–2 business days |
| Power-stage and GDDR7 memory repairs | 3–7 business days |
| Reball and physical damage | 5–10 business days |
| Heat-dependent faults | Extra time to make the fault show itself before tracing it |
| Waiting on a part, such as a GDDR7 chip | Depends on supply; you are told before you approve |
Posted cards also spend time in transit each way. The Australia-wide GPU repair page lists Australia Post estimates by state.
After Your RTX 5080 Is Repaired
A repaired RTX 5080 is load-tested with temperatures logged before it leaves the bench, and you are told in plain words which parts were changed. The final checks:
- detection at full PCIe link width, and every display output;
- a memory test across all eight GDDR7 chips, and the ROP count;
- a sustained load with GPU temperature logged and the power connector checked on a thermal camera.
Once the invoice is paid, collect the card from the workshop by arrangement, or we post it back using your prepaid label or with return postage added to the invoice at cost.
Warranty: the parts we replace are covered for 12 months against the same fault, so if a replaced part fails and that fault comes back inside the year, we deal with it.
Typical RTX 5080 Repair Scenarios
These are typical ways RTX 5080 faults show up, what diagnosis tends to find and how each is handled. They are patterns, not a verdict: your card is diagnosed and quoted on its own.
A browned or melted 16-pin socket on the card
- What you see
- A hot-plastic smell during a long session, then browning or a warped edge on the 12V-2x6 plug.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- Heat damage in the socket from a poor pin contact. The 12V input is measured for shorts and the pads checked for lifted copper.
- The repair
- The socket is replaced and the area cleaned. The cable or adapter that overheated should be replaced too.
- Price and bench time
- From $370; extra damage behind the socket is quoted before any further work
- Before it goes back
- A full-load run with the new socket watched on a thermal camera.
The connector latch has snapped and the plug works loose
- What you see
- The cable no longer clicks home, or a seating warning keeps flagging the plug.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- A broken latch or cracked socket housing with intact pins. If the card is under warranty, ask the retailer first.
- The repair
- The socket is replaced with a new 12V-2x6 connector and the 12V input checked.
- Price and bench time
- From $370
- Before it goes back
- Repeated plug-in and release, then a connector temperature check under load.
Artefacts traced to a single GDDR7 chip
- What you see
- Coloured blocks or lines, often from the start-up screen, and crashes under load.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- Memory testing reports errors on one 32-bit share of the bus, which points to one of the eight chip positions.
- The repair
- The chip is replaced with one that matches the maker, density and speed grade already on the card, once that chip has been sourced.
- Price and bench time
- From $530, usually three to seven business days once the part is in hand
- Before it goes back
- All eight chips retested at full speed, pads renewed, and a long load run.
The computer cuts out the moment it starts
- What you see
- Press the power button and the supply clicks off straight away; take the card out and the PC boots.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- A short to ground on the 12V input or the core rail. Current injection and a thermal camera lead to a single failed power stage.
- The repair
- The failed stage is replaced, the rest of the rail checked, and each rail brought up current-limited.
- Price and bench time
- From $430, usually three to seven business days
- Before it goes back
- A sustained full-load run with rails and temperatures logged.
A Founders Edition that is not detected, or drops out
- What you see
- Black screens, lock-ups or a card that vanishes from the system, sometimes only on a riser.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- Either the card runs normally on the bench, pointing to the slot setting, riser or system, or there is damage at the PCIe board or its joint to the main board.
- The repair
- No repair if the card tests clean: you get the results and the settings to try, such as PCIe 4.0. Physical damage is repaired if the replacement part can be sourced.
- Price and bench time
- The $150 diagnostic if no fault is found; board repairs are quoted after diagnosis, usually five to ten business days
- Before it goes back
- PCIe link speed and width confirmed, with a long load run and repeated restarts.
The card works but is slower than it should be
- What you see
- Benchmarks a little below other RTX 5080s on similar systems, with no crashes or artefacts.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- GPU-Z shows 104 ROPs instead of 112: the factory defect NVIDIA confirmed on an early production build.
- The repair
- None is possible. Missing ROPs are inside the GPU chip, so the card should go back to the retailer or maker for replacement.
- Price and bench time
- Check GPU-Z yourself first; if the card is sent in anyway, the $150 diagnostic applies
- Before it goes back
- If we found it during a diagnostic, you get a written note of the ROP count for your warranty claim.
Overheating after a water block fit or a repaste
- What you see
- Temperatures climb quickly, clocks drop and games stutter, starting after the cooler was removed.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- Uneven mounting pressure, wrong pad thickness or patchy thermal material. On a Founders Edition the board joints are checked too.
- The repair
- A full strip, fresh thermal material on the GPU and pads measured to the board, then an even rebuild.
- Price and bench time
- From $330, usually one to two business days
- Before it goes back
- A long load run with temperatures and clocks logged.
Whole PC powers off in games, yet the card passes every test
- What you see
- The whole computer switches off in demanding games, rather than the game crashing.
- What diagnosis usually finds
- The card holds every rail, passes memory testing and runs a long load cleanly. An undersized or ageing power supply is the likely cause.
- The repair
- No repair is carried out on the card.
- Price and bench time
- The $150 diagnostic and any return postage
- Before it goes back
- You get the test results and the checks to make on your power supply and cabling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an RTX 5080 be repaired?
Usually, yes. Damaged 12V-2x6 connectors, failed power stages, firmware, physical damage and a failed GDDR7 chip can all be repaired at board level, with memory work depending on getting the correct chip. A failed GPU core, deep burn damage or a factory defect such as missing ROPs cannot be fixed. A $150 bench diagnostic sorts out which group your card is in, and it is waived when you proceed.
My RTX 5080 is still under warranty. Should I send it to you?
Go to the retailer first. Your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law sit with the business that sold you the card, and a card this recent may still be inside its maker's warranty. A paid repair makes sense once the warranty has ended or a claim has been declined.
How much does an RTX 5080 repair cost?
Starting prices are $330 for a thermal service or firmware recovery, $370 for 12V-2x6 connector, port or trace work, $430 for a power stage, $530 for a GDDR7 chip (if the correct chip can be sourced) and $630 for reflow or reball. The $150 diagnostic comes off the bill when you proceed. Call 02 8428 9224 with the card model and the fault for a starting price.
What warranty comes with an RTX 5080 repair?
The parts we replace carry a 12-month warranty against the same fault. Should a replaced part fail and that fault return inside the year, drop or post the card back and the replaced part is covered. An unrelated fault counts as a separate job and gets its own diagnosis and quote first.
Can you replace GDDR7 memory on an RTX 5080?
Yes, when the correct chip can be sourced. The RTX 5080 uses eight 2GB GDDR7 chips on a 256-bit bus, and testing finds which chip position is failing. The replacement must match the maker and speed grade already on the card, so we confirm the part before you approve. Memory chip replacement starts from $530.
Can you fix an RTX 5080 with missing ROPs?
No. Some early RTX 5080s shipped with 104 ROPs instead of 112, and NVIDIA confirmed an early production build was affected. The missing units are inside the GPU chip, so no repair can restore them. Check the ROPs field in GPU-Z, and if it shows 104, ask the retailer or the card's maker for a replacement.
Can you repair a melted 12V-2x6 connector on an RTX 5080?
Yes. The damaged socket is removed, the board checked for lifted pads and shorts on the 12V input, and a new connector fitted, from $370. The card is then load-tested with the connector watched on a thermal camera. Replace the overheated cable or adapter too.
Why does my RTX 5080 Founders Edition black-screen or disappear?
It may be the PCIe link rather than a fault. Soon after launch, der8auer reported an RTX 5080 Founders Edition that failed to boot, locked up and lost signal in a PCIe 5.0 slot, and the problems stopped at PCIe 4.0. Remove any riser and set the slot to Gen 4 in the motherboard BIOS. If the fault remains, the card needs diagnosing.
Is an RTX 5080 worth repairing out of warranty?
Usually. It is the second card in NVIDIA's RTX 50 desktop range, and a single repair such as a connector or a power stage costs a small share of a replacement. Check what working RTX 5080s have actually sold for recently, not what sellers are asking. A dead GPU core, or a pile of major faults at once, can tip the balance the other way.
Can I post my RTX 5080 from interstate?
Yes. Once you have a job number from the form or a phone call, post just the card, cooler fitted, in an anti-static bag inside a sturdy box with at least 5cm of padding. Postage both ways is your choice and your cost; the return goes on your prepaid label or is added to the invoice at cost.
