How long the round trip takes from 2478

Ballina's 2478 and Byron Bay's 2481 both fall in Australia Post's NSW Rural zone for Express Post; for Parcel Post the district is NSW Country. Service and cover are your choice and your cost, each way. Business-day estimates from the delivery estimator, not promises:

Door to door, a repaste sent Express both ways is five to eight business days; a reball by Parcel Post at the slow end is eleven to eighteen; power stage and memory jobs, at three to seven bench days, land between. The clock stops while a quote awaits your reply and until the invoice is settled, and intermittent faults or parts on order can add time.

No Express parcel from here qualifies for the next-business-day guarantee. That promise only applies between postcodes on Australia Post's Express network list, and nothing from Wardell to Brunswick Heads appears on it (the Tweed, further north, does). Express still carries the shorter estimate, about a day less per leg, but three days is within that estimate and earns no refund.

Ballina's search results for graphics card repair

Search "graphics card repair Ballina" from here and almost nothing relevant appears; the top result belongs to Ballina in Ireland. The one price on show is a marketplace task offering $150 to assess and swap a graphics card, a replacement rather than a repair. "gpu repair Ballina" does better: general local shops, national onsite networks, directories, and a Reddit thread asking where in Australia a GPU can be fixed. One local business lists faulty graphics cards alongside motherboard repairs, but does not say whether it fixes the board or fits a new card, and publishes no prices or warranty term.

It may well do good work. Ask it, or anyone:

• Is the card fixed at component level, or swapped?
• What is the written starting price?
• How many months of warranty?
• What is the bill if it cannot be saved?

Coastal weather in Ballina and how cards fail in it

Ballina Airport AWS (station 058198, 1992–2026) logs 1,782.0 mm of rain a year and January humidity of 74% at 9am, 67% at 3pm. January's mean maximum is a moderate 28.4 °C, with 1.7 days a year reaching 35 °C, though the station hit 42.0 °C on 12 January 2002. Salty, humid air off the surf is a general hazard for electronics. Heat and dust are better understood: dried paste and pads, clogged fins, loud fans and falling clocks, usually put right by a thermal service, from $330. July nights average 8.8 °C; leave a card that arrives home cold unpowered until it has reached room temperature, as cold parts in warm, damp air can gather condensation.

Ballina Shire Council records major Richmond River floods affecting Ballina and Wardell in 1954, 1974 and 2022; in March 2022, local creeks and overland flooding also reached parts of Ballina and the Teven Valley. At Woodburn the river peaked 1.8 m above its 1954 record. Power is the other coastal story. Storms, says NSW SES, are a September-to-April affair across the state, with roughly 90% of the year's severe thunderstorm activity packed into October–March according to its 2023 hazard report. Both NSW SES and Essential Energy say to unplug the computer before severe weather; a surge can take a card's power stages with it, and those are replaced from $430.

Essential Energy says storm damage is not generally reimbursed and pays only where it was negligent, so ring your home and contents insurer first. Both want paperwork, such as an electrician's report or a repair quote, and the diagnosis and quote we send by email put the failed part and its repair price in writing. Posting from the coast adds nothing to the repair price. Each is a starting figure, fixed by the quote.

The Extra Cover row: Parcel Post and Express Post each carry $100 of included cover, and anything above that is bought in $100 steps (part-steps count whole) at $2.50, to a $5,000 ceiling. A card you value at $3,800 leaves $3,700 to cover: 37 steps, $92.50 a leg. Items over $500 must travel Signature on Delivery, $2.95. Claims require proof of lodgement and value inside six months, and poor packing means no payout. Sendle offers $100 included and up to $1,500; CouriersPlease's included cover omits electronic devices.

Desktop NVIDIA GeForce and AMD Radeon cards are all in scope, whether MSI, PowerColor, EVGA, ASUS, Palit or XFX built them. The best repair candidates are usually newer: GeForce RTX 30 to 50 series, Radeon RX 6000 to 9000.

• Pack indoors, dry. On a sticky day the card stays in its sealed anti-static bag until it goes in the box.
• Double-box. Snug rigid inner box, cushioning, outer box (Australia Post); padding of 7 cm or more plus a shake test (Sendle); plain cardboard that does not shout electronics (Aramex). "Fragile" is not a safeguard.
• The card alone. Cooler fitted, job number enclosed; leads, brackets and retail packaging stay behind.
• Post office before the surf. A sealed car at the beach in summer gets hot enough to bake a parcel.

Warranty, retailer and the law

If the card is recent, the seller hears about it before we do. The guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law work alongside the maker's warranty and cannot be taken away by it; the retailer, not the manufacturer, must deal with you, and for a major failure you choose refund or replacement. Misuse and private purchases are excluded. In 2018 the Federal Court, in ACCC v Apple, held that an independent repair does not on its own end your guarantees; what the manufacturer's warranty allows is a separate question.
