There is no need to write off a dead graphics card because nobody in Taree advertises repairing them. Post it to us. How long the post takes from Taree

Taree is postcode 2430 and Forster–Tuncurry is 2428. Both are NSW Other postcodes for Express Post and NSW Country ones for Parcel Post, and so are Wingham, Harrington, Coopernook and Gloucester, so the whole district shares one set of Australia Post estimates. Express Post and the guarantee, from 2430

Australia Post's next-business-day guarantee covers only postcodes inside its Express Post network, and Taree, Forster and the rest of the Manning are not among them. Express still carries the shorter estimate in both directions, but a parcel that takes longer is not late in Australia Post's terms, and no refund applies. Repair options around Taree

We searched for graphics card and GPU repair in Taree in September 2026. Both searches returned almost nothing relevant: government PDFs, classifieds, and a graphics card for sale. Only Google's map listings showed local businesses, three general computer shops, one of which quotes a 24–48 hour turnaround on its website. None of them, and no other page we found, mentioned repairing graphics cards, a price for it or a warranty on it.

A 24–48 hour general repair is what you want for a PC that will not boot, a driver that keeps crashing, or a check that the card really is the culprit. Use a local shop for that, and for any card cheap enough that posting it makes no sense. A card inside its warranty goes back to the seller. If it does come down to board work, put four questions to any repairer, us included:

What warranty do I get, in months?
If the card is dead for good, what do I owe?

Heat, humidity and the Manning River

Summers in Taree run hotter than on the open coast. The Bureau of Meteorology's Taree Airport station (060141) records a January mean maximum of 29.0 °C and averages 7.1 days a year of 35 °C or hotter; on 12 February 2017 it hit 45.7 °C. Afternoons are humid too, with a January 3pm mean of 60%. Warm rooms speed up the drying of thermal paste and pads, and dust caught in the cooler makes the card run hotter still; that wear is what a thermal service (from $330) fixes.

Floods are what people here remember. On 21 May 2025 the Manning River at Taree reached 6.44 m AHD, above the 1929 record of 5.9 m, and Taree and Wingham were among the towns flooded; 9,500 households were told to evacuate. Two days later more than 5,720 Essential Energy customers were still without power, Taree among the hardest hit. Four years earlier, at 4 pm on 21 March 2021, 2,901 customers across Taree, Forster and Gloucester were without power.

If a PC was caught in floodwater, leave it off. Essential Energy's advice is not to plug in or use anything that has been in a flood until a qualified electrician has checked it, and nothing we do replaces that check. We will also be straight with you: once a card has sat under water, repairing it is often not worth the money. The diagnostic will say for certain, and if the answer is no, you pay only the $150 and the return postage.

Storms bring the other risk. September to April is storm season by NSW SES's definition, with the October–March months accounting for around 90% of severe thunderstorm activity in its 2023 hazard report, and SES says to unplug computers and consoles before severe weather. A surge can knock out the power stages on a card, repairable from $430. Essential Energy runs the network here and compensates only where it was negligent, so flood and storm damage normally goes to your home and contents insurer first. Either will want evidence. Essential Energy's claim form expects supporting paperwork (repair invoices, quotations or an electrician's report). The Extra Cover sum: the first $100 of cover is built into Parcel Post and Express Post, and each further $100 or part of it costs $2.50, up to $5,000. On a card you value at $2,700 that is 26 lots, $65 a parcel. Signature on Delivery ($2.95) becomes compulsory too, since the card is worth more than $500. Each repair price is where the quote starts; after diagnosis it becomes fixed, and the work waits for your yes.

Desktop GeForce and Radeon cards are welcome whichever board maker built them, among them ASUS, Gigabyte, Palit, Gainward, Inno3D and Sapphire. Repair tends to pay on RTX cards from the 30, 40 and 50 generations or AMD's RX 6000 to 9000; a card worth only a couple of hundred dollars on the used market rarely justifies the diagnostic plus postage, and we tell you so when you ring. Counter lodgement and a receipt. Keep the counter receipt: claims need it, plus something showing what the card is worth, and must be lodged within six months.
Box inside a box. Bag the card (anti-static), fit it in a close rigid box, and surround that with 7cm or more of cushioning in the outer carton; shake to test. "Fragile" stickers are not fail-safe, and an inadequately packed card gets nothing back.

A card under warranty

For a recently bought card, start with the retailer. The Australian Consumer Law's guarantees stand apart from the manufacturer's warranty, which adds to them and cannot remove them. When the failure is major, the seller owes you your choice of refund or replacement and has to handle it, not the manufacturer. Neither misuse nor a private sale is covered. And in 2018 the Federal Court, fining Apple $9 million in the ACCC's case, found that repair by an outside technician does not, by that fact alone, end the guarantees.

Can a melted 12VHPWR connector be replaced?

Yes. When the plug on the card has overheated and deformed, we remove the damaged connector, check the board and traces around it, and fit a new one; the same goes for a 12V-2x6 connector. Connector repair starts from $370. As it is physical damage, the bench time is five to ten business days. Check the cable end as well before the repaired card goes back in.

Do I still need the diagnostic if I already know what failed?

Yes. A melted plug or a dead fan is easy to spot, but the diagnostic checks what else the fault took with it before we commit to a fixed price. It costs $150 and is waived when you approve the repair, so if the job goes ahead you have paid nothing extra for it. If you decide against the repair, the bill is $150 plus postage back to Taree.

Is it safe to post an expensive graphics card from Taree?

Cover and packing are what protect it.
