Graphics Card Repair Bathurst: Post It or Bring It Down

Bathurst has computer repairers, but none of them offers graphics card repair. So the answer to that search is a workshop near Castle Hill in Sydney: post the card to us, or, if you are heading to Sydney anyway, bring it with you. In fairness to the local field, one Bathurst shop does micro-soldering on laptop and MacBook boards, with a diagnosis from $33 and a 3-month warranty on screens. • If it cannot be fixed, what do I owe, and will you tell me why?

Stay local for a software or driver problem, for a card so inexpensive that postage both ways plus a $150 diagnostic would outrun its value, or for a card still under warranty. If the screen shows lines or coloured blocks, work through our GPU artefacting checks first, because a loose cable or a bad driver can look identical.

Tableland cold, spring storms and your PC

Past that, each additional $100, or fraction of $100, adds $2.50 of Extra Cover, up to a $5,000 maximum, which is how a $1,300 card arrives at $30. A claim needs evidence that you lodged the parcel and of what the card was worth, must go in within 6 months, and fails outright if the packing was inadequate.

Before the parcel leaves Bathurst

Consumer rights on a card that is still new

For a card that is still fairly new, the retailer comes before any repairer. The consumer guarantees in Australian Consumer Law belong to you whatever the manufacturer's warranty says; that warranty can add to them but never cut them back. Where the failure is major, the pick between refund and replacement is yours, the seller handles it, and you cannot be redirected to the manufacturer. Private sales and misuse are outside the guarantees. ACCC v Apple (Federal Court, 2018) found that a third party's repair does not by itself end them, which is no reason to skip the retailer.
