If you are in Port Macquarie with a graphics card that has stopped working, there is a good chance it can be repaired, just not in Port Macquarie. Thermal and firmware jobs spend one to two days on the bench instead of three to seven, and reballs or physical damage five to ten. Allow extra for approving the quote, and for a fault that only shows itself now and then.
Express from the Mid North Coast: faster, not guaranteed
Port Macquarie sits outside the network where Australia Post guarantees Express delivery on the next business day. Posting Express from here buys the shorter estimate and nothing more: a three-day trip breaks no promise, and there is no refund for it. What Port Macquarie offers locally
When we searched in September 2026, the results for graphics card and GPU repair in Port Macquarie were established general computer shops, community threads asking who can fix a PC, national onsite networks and directories. One shop publishes an onsite rate of $60 an hour with typically same-day service. Two Google business listings carry a "motherboard repair" tag, though neither business's website mentions graphics cards. And a Facebook post in the results asks, in so many words, where to get a graphics card repaired. Nobody published a GPU price or a GPU warranty.
A local shop is the right call for a Windows or driver problem, a quick check that the card really is at fault, or a card cheap enough that postage would eat its value. A card still under warranty should go back to the seller. For a failed memory chip, power stage or connector, ask whoever you are considering:
- Is this a board-level repair, or a card swap?
- Where is your price for this fault published?
- Do you put a warranty term in writing?
- If it cannot be fixed, how much do I pay?
Port Macquarie weather, floods and faults
The Bureau of Meteorology's Port Macquarie Airport comparison station (060139), which recorded from 1995 until it closed in March 2022, gives a January mean maximum of 27.9 °C and a January 3pm humidity of 65%, with annual rainfall averaging 1,397.4 mm. Days of 35 °C or more are rare, 1.9 a year, but the station's record is 46.6 °C, set on 12 February 2017. A card wears out slowly from its own heat regardless: the paste and pads dry over the years, and dust in the fins leaves the cooler less able to shed heat. That is a thermal service, from $330. Close to the ocean, damp salty air is one more reason to keep the inside of a PC clean.
The bigger local risk is water. In the floods that began on 19–20 March 2021, the Hastings River peaked at 12.1 metres at Kindee Bridge, breaking the 2013 major flood record, and the CBD, Settlement Point, the North Shore and the Camden Haven went under. At 4 pm on 21 March, 3,703 Port Macquarie-Hastings customers had no power. On the North Shore, Essential Energy reconnected flooded premises only after an electrician's inspection, with a police boat carrying the electricians across. In May 2025 flooding returned across the Mid North Coast; Port Macquarie was among the places with the heaviest outages, and Essential Energy counted more than 46,000 customers affected over the event.
A PC that went under in a flood should stay switched off: the official line from NSW SES and Essential Energy is that flood-affected appliances need a licensed electrician's check before anyone uses them, and our workshop does not replace that check. We will be plain about the card itself: one that has been under floodwater is frequently not worth the cost of repair. The $150 diagnostic will settle it, and if the answer is no, the return postage is the only other cost.
Storms matter too. Storm season, NSW SES says, is September to April, and its 2023 hazard report puts around 90% of severe thunderstorm activity in the six months from October. It advises pulling the plug on computers and gaming consoles ahead of severe weather. Power stages are the parts a surge can destroy on a card; replacing them starts from $430. Essential Energy, which runs the local network, pays for damage only where it was negligent, so storm and flood losses usually go to a home and contents insurer first. Its claim form, which goes back to a Port Macquarie PO Box, should be accompanied by repair paperwork, meaning invoices, quotations or a report from an electrician; from us, the emailed diagnosis and quote set out the failed parts and what the repair costs. How the cover line adds up: $100 of cover comes with every Parcel Post and Express Post parcel, and the remaining $2,300 on a card you value at $2,400 costs $2.50 per $100, or $57.50. Above $500, Signature on Delivery is compulsory, at $2.95. You choose whether to cover the return leg as well. Every repair price is a minimum; the fixed quote follows the diagnostic, and nothing is touched until you approve it.
A memory fault usually announces itself with coloured blocks, lines or corrupted textures, but so can a bad cable or driver, so work through our GPU artefacting guide before you post. Desktop GeForce and Radeon cards of any make come to us, ASUS and MSI through to Sapphire, PowerColor and EVGA; GeForce RTX 30, 40 and 50 cards, along with Radeon's RX 6000–9000 series, are the generations most often worth repairing. If second-hand buyers would pay only a couple of hundred dollars for it, two lots of postage plus the diagnostic usually outweigh the saving, and we say so when you ring.
Packing and posting from Port Macquarie
- Check your postcode's zone. Kempsey and Crescent Head (2440) share Port Macquarie's estimates. Wauchope, Lake Cathie, Laurieton, Kendall and South West Rocks are in the NSW Rural zone, where the Express estimate stretches to two to three business days each way.
- Keep it dry and snug. Anti-static bag around the card, a rigid inner box that fits it closely, all inside a bigger carton padded with at least 7cm of cushioning; shake it and add padding until nothing moves. A "Fragile" label will not rescue a loose card.
- Nothing but the card. The cooler stays on, and cables, brackets and the retail box stay home. Use a plain carton, as Aramex advises, not one printed with a graphics brand.
- Keep the paperwork. Lodge at the counter for a receipt and keep proof of the card's value. A claim needs both, has to be made inside six months, and is refused if the packing was not adequate.

Recent cards: warranty before repair
Try the retailer first if the card is recent. Under the Australian Consumer Law, a business that sold you a card which has failed badly must give you a refund or a replacement, whichever you prefer, and deal with you itself instead of passing you to the manufacturer. The manufacturer's warranty is extra to that. None of it covers misuse, or cards bought from a private seller.

Can anyone in Port Macquarie repair a graphics card?
Port Macquarie has several established computer shops, and they are a good first stop for software faults, upgrades or checking whether the card is the problem at all. When we looked in September 2026, though, none of their websites mentioned graphics card repair, and none put a price or warranty on GPU work. For board-level work on a failed chip or connector, the card needs to come to us by post, with prices from $330.
Is a graphics card from a flooded house worth repairing?
Usually not, and you should never power it up to find out. Get a licensed electrician to check the house wiring and any flood-affected appliances first, as Essential Energy and NSW SES advise. Cards that have been submerged are often past an economic repair. If it was a valuable one, the $150 diagnostic will say whether it can be saved, and the written findings are useful for an insurance claim.
What are the warning signs of a failing graphics card?
Coloured blocks, lines or flickering textures usually point to memory or the GPU itself. Crashes in games, fans running flat out and falling frame rates point to heat. A card that shuts the PC down as soon as it starts, or shows no sign of life, often has a failed power stage. A cable, driver or power supply can mimic some of these, so read our artefacting guide or ring before posting anything from the Hastings.
Can I send the card Express and have it returned by Parcel Post?
Yes. You choose the service and the cover in each direction. Express from Port Macquarie reaches us in an estimated one to three business days and Parcel Post returns it in three to four, so a memory repair done that way takes about seven to fourteen business days door to door. Put a prepaid Parcel Post label in the box, or we put the return postage on your invoice at cost.
What is the bill if my card is beyond repair?
The $150 diagnostic and the cost of posting the card back, nothing more. Along with the bill comes an explanation of the failure, which helps if you are claiming on insurance or deciding what to buy next.
