Worked through: an Express thermal job is three to four business days all up, a day each way plus a day or two on the bench. Parcel Post both ways: five to ten. Your approval and payment time comes on top; reball or knock damage means five to ten bench days, and an intermittent fault or back-ordered part, longer.

Because the Tweed is inside the network, the next-business-day guarantee can apply, on these conditions:

• Hand it over a Post Office counter, Monday to Friday, or drop it in a yellow Express Post box ahead of that box's clearance (commonly 4pm, varying by box).
• Red street boxes and Parcel Lockers void it.

Tweed weather, the 2022 flood and the faults they cause

The nearest long-record Bureau of Meteorology station is Coolangatta (040717), at Gold Coast Airport over the border, with records from 1982. January averages a 28.5 °C maximum and 69% humidity at 3pm (1993–2010), yet 35 °C days come to only 0.5 a year: humid, not hot. Years of warm running still dry a card's paste and pads, and dust packs the cooler; loud fans and sagging clocks call for a thermal service, from $330. Sea air and humidity are a general risk to coastal electronics. July nights average 10.1 °C, so let a cold-arriving card reach room temperature before switching on, or condensation can form.

The late-February 2022 flood was the Tweed's biggest. The Tweed River at Murwillumbah peaked at 6.51 m, 0.31 m over the 2017 record, and Tumbulgum reached 4.8 m, 800 mm above 2017. Bogangar, Tweed Heads South and Pottsville were affected, the council called power and internet patchy, and Essential Energy's Murwillumbah zone substation was among those hit. A PC that went under stays off until a licensed electrician says otherwise (the advice from NSW SES and Essential Energy), and a repair workshop cannot stand in for that electrician. Submerged cards are often not worth the repair bill; the diagnostic gives a straight answer.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred came next, in March 2025: on 7 March more than 38,000 homes and businesses were without power, worst between Tweed Heads and Yamba, and 84,000 lost supply in all between Tweed Heads and Grafton. Storm season, NSW SES says, lasts from September until April; before severe weather, unplug the PC and any gaming console. Surge damage to a card's power stages is repairable, from $430.

Essential Energy, the NSW-side distributor, generally does not reimburse storm damage and accepts liability only for its own negligence, so home and contents insurance is the usual first claim. Tweed Heads prices

The Tweed pays Sydney bench prices. These are starting points; the quote after diagnosis is fixed.

Both Express Post and Parcel Post carry $100 of cover. Extra Cover adds $2.50 per further $100 of value or part of it (maximum $5,000). With a card you value at $4,500, that means 44 steps, $110 each way, and being over $500 it also needs Signature on Delivery ($2.95). To claim, keep proof of lodgement and of value and lodge within six months; badly packed items are refused. Sendle's built-in $100 extends to $1,500; CouriersPlease's built-in cover excludes electronic devices.

GeForce and Radeon desktop cards from any board partner are welcome, Inno3D and Gainward as much as ASUS. Repair pays best on RTX 30, 40 and 50 GeForces and Radeon RX 6000 through 9000.

Posting tips for Tweed and Gold Coast senders

• Express, over the counter. A day each way against two to four for Parcel Post, and weekday counter lodgement meets the guarantee's lodgement condition and gets you a receipt.
• Pack for the trip. Australia Post suggests a snug, rigid box inside a second box with cushioning between; add Sendle's anti-static bag, 7 cm-plus of padding and shake test, and Aramex's plain, unbranded outer box. Cooler on, job number in, nothing else. "Fragile" labels are not fail-safe.

Recent cards: the retailer's job first

A recently bought card goes back to its store or online retailer first. A manufacturer's warranty adds to the Australian Consumer Law's guarantees and cannot take them away. The seller must handle your claim rather than refer you to the maker, and a major failure gives you the choice of refund or replacement; misuse and private sales are not covered. According to the Federal Court's 2018 ACCC v Apple ruling, repair by a third party does not in itself end the guarantees, although manufacturer warranties carry their own terms.

Can a Tweed graphics card damaged by flood or storm be fixed?

Storm damage often can. When a surge gets through the PC's power supply it can kill the card's power stages, and those are replaced from $430. Flood is harder: cards that have sat under water are frequently uneconomic to fix, and any PC that went under should not be powered up before a licensed electrician has looked at it, per NSW SES and Essential Energy advice. Can you post my repaired card to a PO Box in the Tweed?

Yes, returns to a PO Box are no problem, on the Tweed or Gold Coast side. Either put a prepaid return label in with the card, or let the return postage be added to your invoice at cost.
